Skald Theatre Group

R.T. Kolbeinsson is one of three founders of Skald Theatre Group, which has its origins in York and is also based in Mallorca and Leipzig.

He is a theatre-maker whose work sits at the intersection of cultural exchange, storytelling, and bold, character-driven drama. As a driving force behind Skald Theatre Group, he has been instrumental in building a platform that not only produces original work but actively nurtures new voices, particularly those navigating identity, language, and place.

At the core of Kolbeinsson’s work is a commitment to risk and evolution. He is less interested in safe narratives and more drawn to stories that challenge both performers and audiences—stories that linger, unsettle, and provoke reflection

As a company, Skald aims to use English-language theatre as a creative bridge—uniting artists from diverse countries and backgrounds while making its work accessible to a broad, internationally minded audience. This approach has enabled the group to collaborate with global talent without losing its strong connection to the local arts scene, while also engaging in funded partnerships with government bodies and universities to foster wider interest in theatre.
